We have launched the She@LuxSE initiative to help achieve gender equality in the financial sector.
United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which define the areas of development that we all need to adopt in order to achieve a happier and healthier world by 2030. It’s not about governments setting agendas, but all of us manifesting these goals in our lives. The fifth SDG is related to “Gender Equality”. Equality can’t remain a work in progress, it must become work for progress.
At LuxSE, we have sustainability at the core of our business. We have moved a step further and created a platform for our employees to exchange views on how men and women can work and grow together, support each other and take better decisions.
Ringing the bell for gender equality
In the majority of cases, however, women experience gender inequality more. Contrary to what one might think, research shows women in developing countries have higher access to career opportunities than in the developed world. According to World Bank’s 2017 report, Luxembourg experiences a widening gender gap in women’s estimated earned income, women’s share of professional and technical roles and women’s representation in ministerial roles. This is not right.
Research shows that gender equality has a positive impact on companies and workplaces, including:
- Improved national productivity and economic growth Increased organisational performance
- Enhanced ability of companies to attract talent and retain employees
- Enhanced organisational reputation.
At current estimates, workplace and economic gender equality will not be achieved until 2095, and at that rate most of us will not be around to see it. That is why immediate action is needed and I am excited that we have launched the SheLuxSE initiative. Called to life by women, SHE@LuxSE’s aim is to enable both genders to contribute equally in business, and personal lives, benefitting all.
It can be perceived that only one side benefits from gender equality however, all evidence suggests that when there is true equality, we all benefit. From economic participation to gender-balanced organizations, we will all be wealthier, healthier and happier when there is true equality. At LuxSE we have sustainability at the core of our business. Now, we are moving a step further by taking action to reach the goal number 5 of the UN Sustainability Development Goals.
